Honouring Two Pillars of Our Community: Bayside’s Newest Life Members
Henry Poutu and Greg Gibbards - Bayside’s Newest Life Members
We are thrilled to announce the induction of two remarkable individuals into Bayside’s Life Membership.
Henry Poutu and Greg Gibbards were nominated by Aunty Monica Wharehinga and Lynn Keel, and overwhelmingly supported by the majority of the Bayside membership at the 2023 AGM held on the 16th of September.
Henry’s unwavering commitment to Bayside, both on and off the water, and his passion for outrigger paddling is evident in the countless hours he’s spent training, coaching, and inspiring fellow club members. His humility and wisdom have made him a trusted mentor, and his presence at the club is a source of strength and encouragement for all.

Greg, another treasured member of our club, recently made us proud on the international stage with his gold medal triumph in Apia, Samoa. His accomplishments have not only brought praise to Australia but have also inspired and galvanised our club members to serve with joy and to paddle strong for your teammates, whatever the outcome.
It is a testament to Henry and Greg’s character that the Bayside membership resoundingly supported their nominations. Their fortitude and dedication to our club embody the spirit of va’a and outrigger paddling.
We also acknowledge the mahi/work of aunty Monica Wharehinga and Lynn Keel for recognising their remarkable contributions and spearheading their nominations.
As Life Members, Henry and Greg will continue to be an inspiration, ensuring that our community continues to thrive and grow.

Bayside Outrigger Canoe Club (Bayside OCC) is a great sporting club based in the Redland Bay, paddling the beautiful waters of Raby Bay, Cleveland. Our aim is to create a family orientated club, focused on fun, fitness, pride and respect.
