Sponsorship

Bayside Outrigger Canoe Club Inc. (Bayside OCC) offers sponsors an opportunity to promote their business to our members, the wider paddling community, and their families and friends. There are some 5,000 registered paddlers incorporating Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, the ACT and South Australia, spread amongst more than 80 outrigger clubs.

Bayside OCC is one of 25 clubs in the Southern Qld Zone (Tweed Coast to Fraser Coast.) Our members compete at six regional events (up to 2,000 paddlers) and eight national events (up to 5,000 paddlers) throughout the year.

Outrigger canoeing (waka ama) is a unique sport, in that it is suited to a broad age demographic from; Juniors 8-19 years, Opens, Masters 40+, Snr Masters, Golden Masters, through to Platinum Masters 75+.

Bayside OCC is very fortunate to occupy a compound 20m from the waters edge, near the VMR building and public boat ramp at William Street, Raby Bay, Cleveland. This is an extremely high traffic area, providing the local community and visitors to the area, access to the beautiful waters of Moreton Bay.

Bayside OCC canoes can be seen out on the waters around Raby Bay on a daily basis, as crews go through training drills. You may notice several different craft on the water at one time, from our OC1 & OC2 (1 & 2 seat) canoes to the larger OC6 (6 seat) canoes, coming and going at various times of the day. With approx. 70 members, the club canoes get a good work out on the water.

We have arranged three sponsorship packages from which your business may choose. In addition to these, the club is open to other variations, which would be mutually beneficial to both parties. Please Contact Us and ask to speak with our Club President about sponsoring our Club.

WHY OUTRIGGER CANOEING (WAKA AMA) ?

There are an estimated 25,000 outrigger canoe paddlers worldwide and the sport is currently experiencing huge growth. The first regatta in Australia was held in 1981 and the national body, Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association (AOCRA), was formed in 1988. In 1990 there were 11 clubs in Australia, mainly in the Whitsundays. There are now 80 clubs Australia wide.

The future potential of the sport in this country is endless because of the climate and coastal environments that provide us with all manner of ocean conditions in which to play, practice and ultimately excel in outrigger canoe (waka ama) racing. The sport has come of age in Australia.

In May 2016, the World Outrigger Sprint Championships will be held at Kawana Lakes, Sunshine Coast. Participants from 35 countries, with 3,000 supporters & spectators will visit Southern Queensland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LdyVISh3iw
